The aftermath…
Following the sensational announcement of Redknapp replacing Ramos, it’s emerged that Tottenham will be without a sporting director until the end of this season.
This might not bother many Spurs fan’s, but it’s set to provide a major kick in the teeth for Levy, who has previously released numerous statements regarding the importance of a sporting director.
Harry Redknapp seems categorically against sporting directors and nearly left Portsmouth when they appointed former Chelsea boss Avram Grant to the position at Pompey.
In fact, the whole Spurs boardroom looks very bare, with the club last night sacking Poyet, Alvarez and Comolli, as well as Ramos. Clive Allen and Alex Inglethorpe are in charge for todays game against Bolton, but it’s likely Redknapp will soon strive to bring in his own backroom team.
According to sources at the club, the players are ‘delighted’ with Redknapp’s appointment. There’s no doubt that Redknapp’s a more influential manager then Ramos and players such as David Bentley, Luka Modric and Jonathan Woodgate, who seemed to be losing their way under Ramos, could regain the form that forced Spurs to splash out for them.
It’s not really hard to understand the thinking behind Harry Redknapp’s appointment- he has the knowledge on keeping struggling teams in the premier league. Who can forget his first spell at Portsmouth which earned him the nickname ‘Harry Houdini’ ? It seems that in the last few weeks, Spurs have started to lose belief. It will be Redknapp’s first job to restore it, and to gradually lead Tottenham up the premier league table. After all, he’s turned Portsmouth’s fortunes around, from relegation fodder to F.A Cup champions.
He’s got the knowledge, the experience and the guile to lead us out of the mess we’ve got ourselves into.
God knows we need him.
It is really sad that even winning the cup and spending big money, for players like Bently and Mordic Spurs cannot perform. I really feel sorry for Redknapp as I think that his capabilities as a coach will not be exploited by the Spurs players which are not playing as a team. Wish you luck. Unfortunately Redknapp is going to make a losing start as his ‘TEAM’ is playing Arsenal in a mid-week clash
I see what you’re saying and, don’t get me wrong, I’ve experienced the fears that you’ve been talking about. However I think that now ‘Arry’s come, players like Bentley and Woodgate will buck their ideas up. As for Modric, dont forget that Ramos was playing him out of position. I do see what you’re saying but I think the majority of the blame should lie with Ramos, not the players. That said, I think it’s disgraceful that some of the players didn’t perform for Ramos. At the end of the day they’re playing for Tottenham Hotspur and the fans, not just for Ramos and Poyet.
